About The Viola
“The Cranleigh, 2024” is an original model viola handcrafted in the contemporary style by Antoni Ruschil, London. Measuring 16 3/16” it is a medium to large sized viola made from deeply flamed Carpathian maple and north Italian spruce.
Tonally it is phenomenally well balanced and smooth, with beautiful depth, earthiness and clarity across the strings to suit quartet, orchestra or solo playing. With Thomastik Spirocore tungsten C&G and Pirastro Perpetual D&A strings, “The Cranleigh” has depth and drive at the bottom as well as a smooth, rich, honey-like sonority at the top.
Finished with a fine, traditional deep red varnish with a light craqueleur, it has been handcrafted to showcase its high quality maple and spruce, whilst protecting and enhancing the sound of the viola.
Completed with bespoke boxwood pegs & endpin made by Gerald Crowson and Ruschil model flamed boxwood chinrest & tailpiece made by Alexander Accessories, “The Cranleigh” is finished with the highest quality fittings in the world, handmade in England.
“The Cranleigh” comes with a case by Musafia, Italy included.
